October 2018 Schedule

The first Tuesday of the month comes early in October, on the 2nd! Don’t let it slip by!

We’ll make a first time visit to Joey B’s on Manchester Road. Meeting starts at 6:30pm, arrive early if you want to order a bite to eat. Here is a map of the location.

Every fall, we schedule a joint outing with our “left coast” compadres from the Volvo Club of Kansas City. This year we’ll dig into US/UK history and visit the National Churchill Museum at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. The date is October 27. Many Missourians know that Churchill delivered his famous “Iron Curtain” speech there, but few seem to actually stop to visit as they speed between KC and STL.

Our group will take a tour of the facilities and soak up the history and significance of the site.   St. Mary’s Church was designed by Christopher Wren in 1677, destroyed during the bombing of London in 1941 during World War II, and then reconstructed using 7000+  original stones moved to Fulton in 1964.  Assembly completed in 1969.   Westminster College is where Winston Churchill gave his famous “Iron Curtain” speech in 1946.  In 1990 a sculpture known as the “Break Through” incorporating original panels of the Berlin Wall was added to the site.

Following our tour, we will then proceed to the Fulton Café for a casual and modestly priced gourmet luncheon.  If you doubt me, check the menu on their web page!

Following that culinary delight, we will adjourn to the nearby Auto World Museum for a tour of that collection of vehicles of some significance – perhaps lobbying for the addition of a Volvo or two in the process.

We’ll have instructions posted shortly on meeting time and location to caravan to the museum.
