I hope the subject line above got your attention. This is a chance to get out in the Volvo, learn some history, and eat some good food.
Our first drive of the year will take us into Illinois to visit the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site near Hartford. The museum there is quite interesting in how it documents the Louisiana Purchase expedition of 1804, which set out from the area. We can also take in the Confluence Tower about 1/4 mile away for some great views of the St. Louis skyline and the confluence of two great American rivers.
Here is our plan:
1. Assemble @10-10:30am, at the Shell Station near Columbia, IL, near the interchange of I-255 and IL Rt. 3. Depart by 10:30am sharp. See this map for exact location: Shell Station Starting Point2. Drive to Lewis and Clark State Historic Site which is about 30 minutes up I-255. See this map for exact location: Lewis & Clark State Historic Site3. Adjourn for lunch ~ 1pm at Ravanelli’s Restaurant in Collinsville IL Ravanelli’s Map
Please RSVP below so that we can have appropriate space reserved at the restaurant. If you plan to just meet us at the Lewis & Clark site, please let us know that, too.
One hopes that by the 21st of April Spring will be in full swing!
